No - it is far superior in terms of esthetics and is equal to the fluid steel barrels of the day. As long as appropriate loads (to those proscribed by the manufacturer at the time of manufacture) they are quite safe. There are commercial loads that are appropriate or you can load your own. A few ‘off the shelf’ loads are okay too as long as they are manufactured to reasonable specs.
