Help with identification

[GH-16]

I ran across a very nice 16ga double yesterday while visiting the taxidermist I use. I've done some basic research and have determined that the gun is made in Czechoslovakia and is probably on a prewar Simson action.

My questions about are:

1. Does anyone have information on the maker = Jos. Skacel
2. Give me you're best guess of value?

Offhand, I don't recall hearing that name, but intercepting sears and side clips would indicate a high quality gun. Unfortunately (or not depending whether you're the buyer or seller) high quality German and Eastern European side by side box locks haven't kept up with French, Belgian, and, obviously, English guns.

A quality looking gun. As Edgar has pointed out a lot of these haven't kept up with the more well known makers. If your buying this is obviously in your favor. IMHO value would be in the neighborhood of $1000 give or take a little. If the stock is solid with no cracks and it had good dimensions and it's fairly priced go for it.

Is the gun being offered for sale?

I need to shop where you shop, I'd honestly expect to see this gun in the high 2s, low 3s.

I agree with Edgar. I have owned and sold Sauers and Dalys in similar condition and grade for 2000 ++.

It isn't a Sauer or a Daly if it was I'd agree with you. It's most likely a guild gun from a maker that's not well known but was obviously very talented.

From all appearances, this gun is of a much higher level of workmanship of the run of the mill Sauer. Engraving alone is far better. When have you seen intercepting Sears on a Sauer?

Sauers did come with intercepting sears, especially in the higher grades.

Only in the higher grades and more commonly on earlier guns.
