1250 is only marginally more than loads considered "Lite"

most of time it is not the barrels but the wood that can't take the pounding. i am not saying these are heavy loads, unless they are 1 1/2 ozs. at 1250. the barrels would take it but wood would take a pounding. i keep my loads at 1100 fps for 1 1/8th and under and my 1 1/4 oz bismuth duck / goose loads at 1150 or so scott

Most 2-frame 12-gauge VH-/VHE-Grades that have been in use since the introduction of high velocity loads in 1922 have digested thousands of 1330 fps, 1 1/4 ounce, Super-X type loads. Many have probably digested their fair share of 1 1/2 ounce 12-gauge 2 3/4 inch magnums since their introduction in 1955, also.

We do know of a scarce few 1-frame 12-gauge guns that were marked on the barrels "For Standard Velocity Only". But, a decade later, Remington wasn't marking their 1/2-frame VHE-Grades "For Standard Velocity Only".

yes, and they might be the guns with the cracked and pined stock we see today. i am just saying the wood is 80 to 120 years old. and like my shoulder, they can't take as much pounding as when they (we) were younger scott
