1st Post 1909 Parker Photos

Hello. I just joined PGCA. I recently sold some hang tags on eBay to a member here, who got me interested in my Parker. I have a 1909 VH Grade which was my Step-Grandfather's gun. He was a Philly cop in the 1920's/1930's. The gun is in excellent condition, the one concern I have is that the Beavertail Forend may not be original. Here are some photos:

Jim, take a photo of the bottom of the barrels, from the barrel flats to the forend lug,that would tell us for sure, plus does it have a bolt at the end of the forend? The forend does not look to be a Parker forend though.

The forend lug and iron is for a splinter equipped gun. I did not leave the factory that way.

Is it possible/feasible/not too expensive to get a forend from a period gun and have a gunsmith put the original serial # metal on a original forend?

Yes, there was one below for sale 85.00 I think.

Yes, forend wood comes available fairly often on the auction sites. Be careful and ask questions before buying. I have seen that splinter forends do have some variation in different periods of manufacture. Would be helpful to find one with a close serial number.
Or you could always have a new one made for it.

Very nice gun by the way. It deserves the correct forend on it.

by the way that is a sweet gun you have there.
be sure to order a research letter on it.
the research letters are a tremendous benefit of ownership.

Jim: You do not need new fore end iron. The one that you have is the original one. Just find the wood as mentioned above and have your iron properly inletted to it. BTW you have a marvelous piece of family history there. Please keep it in the family & one day pass it down.

I didn't want to mention him by name, but member George M Purtill is a pleasure to do business with and I highly recommend him. If you have hang tags to sell, see him!

I will be posting more photos when I get the Parker out again, but I agree restoring it to the original condition makes sense.
