The forend lug and iron is for a splinter equipped gun. I did not leave the factory that way.

Is it possible/feasible/not too expensive to get a forend from a period gun and have a gunsmith put the original serial # metal on a original forend?

Yes, forend wood comes available fairly often on the auction sites. Be careful and ask questions before buying. I have seen that splinter forends do have some variation in different periods of manufacture. Would be helpful to find one with a close serial number.
Or you could always have a new one made for it. Very nice gun by the way. It deserves the correct forend on it.

Jim: You do not need new fore end iron. The one that you have is the original one. Just find the wood as mentioned above and have your iron properly inletted to it. BTW you have a marvelous piece of family history there. Please keep it in the family & one day pass it down.
Best Regards, George |

Thanks so much for the replies...and the advice from George Lander.
I didn't want to mention him by name, but member George M Purtill is a pleasure to do business with and I highly recommend him. If you have hang tags to sell, see him! I will be posting more photos when I get the Parker out again, but I agree restoring it to the original condition makes sense. |
