The lack of a rib legend and your description of a "very late serial number" indicates to me that it is a late Remington Parker. Remington is known to have taken liberties in straying from the 'standard' features of their graded Parkers. Such things as wood befitting a gun of a much higher grade; checkering patterns that are a far reach from the standard pattern for the grade; skeleton steel butt plates, normally reserved for Grade 3 and higher have been seen on Grade 2 Parkers. About the only feature of the graded Remington Parkers that seems to have remained constant is the engraving pattern remaining true to the grade.
We would like very much to see pictures of your Parker and know the serial number range as well. |

the last serial number in the records book is XXX,X88 I recall and mine is XXX,X75. One of the sets of barrels (26") has a Moneymaker vent rib. The other is 28" with the conventional solid rib. My first reaction when I got the gun was that it had been refinished due to the nature of the case coloring, but it does not appear to have been polished. I am a poor hand with IT, but will try to post some pictures in the next few days. jack

Going from memory here (and that ain't as reliable as I would like) was it 242,588 that you're refering to? That could put your GHE into the late (post-war) 1940's I'm thinking...

There are no 242s in the records. I would assume he is referring to the last gun in the stock books. This would be the last gun in the SB also.

I have always used 242487 as the last Parker built by Remington.
