Default Guyette and Deeter auction gun descriptions.

Are the descriptions for the guns accurate? Can you depend on it if a gun is listed as all original? I have my eye on one in particular and was just wanting to get some feedback from someone that has purchased guns through the auction company to make sure the descriptions are reasonably accurate.

I don't believe you get to have cherub like features for no reason.
I would give Josh and his bunch high marks in the "Condition Report" column.
Contact him through this forum, I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss any questions you may have.

Having consigned several guns to G&D, in past auctions, and reviewing the auction descriptions to what I knew to be the actual condition, It's my opinion that the catalog descriptions are accurate, if not conservative.

I’ve read descriptions of G&D auctions then previewed some items and IMHO I’d say they do a very decent job of it ! Sure from time to time you might see something you don’t agree with but it won’t be anything major .

Thanks for the information, I didn’t know that Josh was involved with G&D.

You will never need to question Josh's descriptions of guns.

I mostly agree but it is no substitute for doing your homework. Auctioneers represent the seller and it is there job to present the inventory in the best light. You still need to do your own evaluation.

If you can't go look at the gun(s) in person, call Josh with your questions ready. He'll get the gun in hand and go over it with you. Next best thing to being there.

Review the terms of the auction house carefully and what they guarantee. Some only gaurantee titles and some guarantee title and descriptions. If they guarantee descriptions them that means they stand behind what is stated in the description, word for word. So read every word, I know auction descriptions can be rather verbose and put you to sleep most of the time. Also watch for what may NOT be spelled out as there is likely a reason for it.

As for originality of anything. Sometimes that can be subjective and a matter of opinion.

True Brian, and we're lucky enough to have and to trust the opinions of a few true experts in their field... Josh Loewensteiner comes to mind here... Malcolm MacGregor is another.
