12 gauge 2 frame barrels

I’m looking to purchase a 12 gauge 2 frame barrel set steel , Larry DeLGrego is restoring my Parker for me and the old Damascus barrels are no good. He said I need to try to find some barrels for it. If anyone has a set that they would be willing to part with I am interested, the catch is I would like to do it on consignment, that way they would ship right to him and he can inspect them and make sure they would work.

No barrel set will just fit on your gun without work. Some work or lots or work.

Did he give you specifics as to why your barrels are “bad”?
Historically Delgrego has never been willing to work on Damascus barreled guns. If that has changed, then fine. But just make sure that your barrels are actually junk and have a readon why. There is no reason to bury yourself in a set of new barrels and also destroy the originality of the gun unless you HAVE to.

I agree with Brian completely.

The mere fact that the barrels are Damascus doesn't make them bad or junk. They need to be measured CORRECTLY before they are relegated to the scrap pile. Lots of us shoot Damascus barrels quite safely and they're a lot prettier than blued steel.

He checked them, I’m going to put sleeves in them. Got ahold of Briley today and they are making what I’m going to need that way I can keep the Damascus barrels. He was going to use Kirk merington sleeves, but the guy has retired. He said they aren’t safe to shoot out of but sleeves will work that way I can keep the original barrels the gun was mad in 1883

Did DelGrego provide the specific Barrel Wall Thickness of each barrel that lead him to the conclusion they were unsafe to shoot or was his conclusion based only on the fact that they are damascus?

Bob gives good advice, but, better yet, get them back and send them to any number of good barrel guys who don't have a history of harboring a dislike for damascus.

Some years back Babe told me that my 1910 GHE Damascus barrels were “bad “ and not shootable. They are unblemished , never honed , not dented , not bulged , 2 frame 30’s . Completely original .
.040 wall thickness.
They have had a steady diet of 3 dram , 1 1/8 oz and some 3 1/4 dram 1 1/4 oz loads for the last 20 years with me and likely for the 100 years before me.

But if you don’t want your Damascus barrels , let me know .

You might ask how your gun is being “restored “ . Some of those so called restorations involve a new stock which is incorrect to the year and grade, spray on varnish finish , lack of a mullerd checkering border , incorrect rubber pad, and chemical case Tiger striped coloring . Those are not restorations but are reconstructions and usually devalue the gun apart even from the cost of the work.
