Default Identifying a Pre 1900 SxS Hammer Gun

Gentlemen, I am looking for assistance identifying a Parker Brothers SxS Hammer Shotgun. The shotgun has a complete shoulder strap. This is my Great-Grandfather’s gun and I can account for possession all the way back to at least 1957. Based on the Parker Brothers website information, the following are the markings that I have found:

Water Table: Left side “17253” and “MAR 15 1975”
Fore Stock: “17253”
Fore Stock Lock Slide: “17253”
Bottom of Barrel: “M+” and “8479” and “O2”
Top of Barrels: “PARKER BR’S MERIDEN CONN PLAIN TWIST”

I have photos to post as soon as I figure how to attach them. If there are other locations on the gun to look for markings, please pass those along as well.

I look forward to any and all help out there.

Thank you in advance,

John

17253 should be a grade 0 12 gauge lifter with plain twist 32 inch barrels

no extras are noted - the sling is likely not factory

if the O2 is on the lug - it will be a two frame,

looking forward to seeing pictures

Thanks again!!

The condition of the bores is critical to value

If you are not experienced you may not want to clean it

It almost looks like someone painted some of the metal

Rick,

Thank you for your help. As I remember the barrel are mostly clean with some pitting noted. The gun has been in a dry basement at least since 1957. It is possible that there was some paint applied at one point to the metal, but my father and I can not lay claim to that.
