Default Weekend Trading Session 2

This was the second half of consoling myself on missing David's hammer gun.

I realize the CH was the bigger trade but I actually am more pleased with this DH (except for the pad).

Until quite recently it had been in the same family since new. It was originally presented to A.D. McVey, on his 16th birthday, according to the surviving heir, in 1896. Pretty nice gift for a 16 year old

I'm presuming the family was well off and also not too active in the field by it's present condition. The bores are 'as new', the checkering crisp and the Damascus barrels are the main reason I traded for it.

I believe it is untouched, finish wise, the screws are slightly off so it has been opened, but will defer to the more knowledgeable members.

Any thoughts on whether I should leave the pad alone (again I think original to gun but letter may shed light on this) or do I try to find a period replacement?

Cheers JG

That is quite a nice DH you have.

If you plan to shoot it then you should replace the pad and save the original.

I agree with Dean, replace the pad with a period correct pad and make sure you keep the original pad. That is a very nice original DH,

It turned out that way Brian thanks!

It was a little complicated at first as I wasn't too keen on letting go one of the guns he wanted for the C (I'd bought it from him last year and he wanted it back) until he brought out the D and then we made a combo trade for the C and D and we're both happy. He's a super guy, very knowledgable about all guns but specializes in Parkers, (and in fact was the reason I got into Parkers) so I always have fun and learn when working with him.

We don't always see eye to eye on the value of other makes but with Parkers we're always on the same page.
