I wonder whatever possessed magazine companies to put the address label on the front, usually smack-dab in the middle of the cover art? Wouldn't the back cover have worked just as well?

Great picture! One thing I noticed is that the original 1922 cover seems to have been better preserved than the one from which the Parker cover was reproduced. Enlarge the photo and compare the colors. Sometimes we accept quality in old prints and photos and contribute it to age. When you see period artwork which has been well stored, you appreciate more some of the quality that existed at the time of production.

and depending on who and by what process these things are reproduced, the quality of the reproduction can certainly suffer.

I'm trying to read the name on the label. I can easily make out the name Elliot but the first two letters aren't as clear to me.

Sarah Lefever has a set of Lefever barrels made of Bernard Steel that were made expressly for F. A. Elliott.

Different spelling though...

I too have the national sportsman like the first one jack shows my second one is of the boy on the motorcyckle with girl in the side car...I look at them often what a magazine it was...thanks jack.........charlie
