It looks like they are designed to work atop a fiber wad ( sort of like the early US plastic shot sleeves ). They also look thick enough to increase the height of the shot column considerably.

They're not slit? Seems they would tip once out of the barrel and mess up the linear nature of the shot string in some random and uncontrollable fashion.

Yes guys, you need to but these cups atop of a fibre wad or similar,and you need to put slits down the wad. Some people recommend three slits.
