All my Parker Reproductions measure right barrel .003 or .004 and the left runs from .006 to .007 The old time books say: skeet in skeet out are .004 and .011 I am sure there are other printed info on the subject. Remember....the only way to know a guns pattern quality and chokes is to shoot and count with the shell that you need the answer for in each of your barrels. SXS Ohio

Q1 and Q2 chokes are only seen on the Parker Reproduction by Winchester - no other gun uses that choke identifier because Richard Skuese 'invented' it... not the constriction but the description. According to The Parker Story, Skuese simply wanted a 'nomenclature' that set his guns off from the rest of the "Skeet" guns and he wanted his guns to be more accepted by the hunting public as well as Skeet shooters.
By the way Kurt, there are no stupid questions around here - there is SO much to learn and to know. .

I have found that just because a gun is marked as skeet choke it doesn't mean much. My 16ga VHE skeet gun is .010 in both barrels and the Hollywood gun also a 16ga skeet is IIRC .004 &.006. Lots of difference and they only way to know for sure is at the pattern board.

I know an individual who ordered a Holland & Holland 20 gauge specifically dedicated for quail shooting in the early 1970's. When he went to London to be measured and fitted for the gun, they asked him for his preference in chokes. They actually calculated his stride and patterned the gun at 13 steps for the right barrel and 16 steps for the left barrel to deliver consistent patterns at those ranges for flushed birds at that distance. He specified the ammo he would use per drams of powder and oz. of shot. I imagine the actual measurements of choke and resulting pattern performance came out pretty close to the Parker Repro Q1 & Q2, IMHO the best combination of chokes for close-in shooting in dense cover (especially woodcock). In examining a few Savage Fox Skeet & Upland Game guns, nearly each measured +/- .005" constriction in the right barrel and +/- .009 in the left.

I just purchased a 20 ga repro for my grandson that is marked Q1/Q2. They measure .004/.009.
When I purchased my first 20 ga repro many years ago I did not know about the Q chokes so I bought an IC/Mod and had them opened to .004/.008. It has turned out to be the best grouse gun I have ever used and in 50 years I've used a bunch of them. The caveat here is that I spent considerable time experimenting with loads till I found what I was looking for. There just is no substitute for pattern board time. |

Not stupid at all Kurt! Just remember that you'll be far more accurate if you shoot the Q1 barrel in Jan-March and the Q2 barrel in April -June!! Good hunting!!
