Default Factory 16 guage option

This is not a reloading post so my apologies up front. I was looking for a reasonable option for 16 guage factory shells to shoot in my Parker 16's. I found the Fiocchi Dove loads with 1 oz at 1165 fps and they looked promising so I reached out to Fiocchi and this was their respone.

"Dan,

Most recent runs of those are looking like 6600-7000 psi. Some lots may go a bit higher, I would say 7500 is a good limit for these.

I shot those loads Dan and for me the recoil was more than I liked and that was in a 1 frame. You may find them tolerable but I much prefer 7/8 or even better 3/4oz.

That PSI is very reasonable but the speed in FPS may be the cause of excessive recoil. Depends on the powder they use. Maybe a slower burning powder would be the answer.

Unfortunately unless you can get the RST Falcon lite loads the only way to guarantee low pressure/low recoil 16ga loads is to handload.

Thanks Daryl. I have a few boxes on hand but wanted to know more before I shot them. I would definitly prefer a 3/4 oz load if I could find a factory option under $15/box. I may have to find a 16 guage loader and load my own.

What Dean said. I've gone to 3/4oz in every gauge I load and find them more than equal the job I ask of them.

I'm a convert Daryl. I shot 12 gauge 3/4 once loads at the Southern and it was like shooting a 28 gauge.

Yes and it's what makes a 28 gauge so much fun to shoot.

1 oz at 1165 is very reasonable especially at 7500 FPS or less. I shoot Fiocchi factory shells too and they break birds. I reload 2 3/4" and 2 1/2" 16g hulls. I use Green Dot, Unique and Longshot. All make soft shooting 1 oz loads and they stone pheasants even in the 2 1/2" hulls. Only reason I load 2 1/2" hulls is because I have so many of them. Plenty of recipes for both hull sizes.
