Question Guns that don't match SN book

Sorry, but I'm just a new guy getting his feet wet. Have recently looked at two seperate GHE's. The SN's were in the book but the guns did not completely match. In one case the gun had extras that were not listed and the other gun was listed as a V in the book but was a G. Should this send one running for cover or should you use your best judgement and let the gun speak for its self ? Thanks for any and all advice.

The front pages in the Parker Identification and Serialization Book provide a lengthy explanation of the methods of data gathering and limitations for using the book.

A person interested in Parkers is always advised to know his Parkers and be able to know what is correct. A PGCA research letter is usually helpful. An experienced mentor can be invaluable. There might be somebody close to you who you trust and knows his Parkers.

MARK, I ONCE HAD A PHE THAT THE SERIALIZATION BOOK SAID WAS A VHE, THERE ARE MISTAKES IN THE BOOK NO ONE WOULD UPGRADE A VHE TO A PHE UNLESS IT WAS A 410 AND I HAVE SEEN TWO OF THOSE FLOATING AROUND, BUT THE PEOPLE WHO DID THE CHANGES AND THEY ARE NOT HARD TO DO FORGOT TO CHANGE THE ARROW FLETCHES. IT CAN BE HARD WHEN FIRST GETTING YOR FEET WET IN THE PARKER WORLD MY ADVICE ONLY BUY GUNS THAT CAN BE DOCUMENTED WHILE YOU ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE BEST SHOTGUN MADE IN THE USA. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITAL LETTERS BUT MY CAPS LOCK IS FROZEN GARY

I just did a letter for one of our members. He received it and said something is wrong! He said his gun was clearly a GH but my research of the order book clearly shows it to be a PH with twist barrels. I looked up the stock specs, weight, and chokes in the stock book and wrote the letter.

Upon reexamining the order book, it was clearly a PH. When I looked at the stock book again, what I didn't look at the first time was the first column which lists barrel steel and number grade. I usually don't look because I've never seen it differ from the order book. It showed a Dam2 (GH). The order book was wrong. Remember, the Serialization book info is taken from the stock books so in this case the Serialization book was correct.
