Default A Pair of Bob's

Quail hunting in the northern panhandle of West Virginia with the girls. Got the third, limit bird after taking these pictures. Willie has been doing an outstanding job on the quail.. Fancy got her ear ripped open on the briar and looked like I shot her in the face. Had a hard time stopping the bleeding even with clotting powder. Don't think I had a shot over 15 yds in the dense Autumn Olive thickets. Woods quail, Garry Gordon called them.
Going to carry a 20 hammer gun tomorrow with 30 in cyl/cyl and AA 9's. Shot a Ugartechea 20 Grade 2 today, 27 in barrels and IC/M.

Damn, 7 hours later and she is still bleeding, dog crate full of blood clots. Got the serious clotting powder out of my medical kit. Think I finally got it stopped, probably hold her up tomorrow.

Harold, I hope your pup will mend quickly. We had a bad situation once with a dog who kept cutting her tongue and we could not stop the bleeding. Scary stuff at times.

Also, beware(!) the challenge of wild Bobs can be addictive...so says the Surgeon General.

PS You must be a heckova shot!

I'm not familiar with clotting powder, but always carry EMT Gel and that has worked well the two times I had to do it. Once was on a friends setters ear that was lacerated and needed 2" of stitching that day.

I did NOT know that WV has wild bobwhite? I didn't think any of them existed on the East Coast anymore, at least that's what I was told.

Not wild Andy, but a very significant release on appropriate WMA's, something like 21,000 altogether released.
Shawn, Ill have to look that up and get some, the stuff I used was Wound Seal, and it did work well.

Another good day/morning chasing quail. Got into 2 big coveys . Man, those covey flushes had me waving that gun all around before I finally settled down.Thats Willie on point down in the thick stuff, I missed that bird 2x from a kneeling position. Had a rooster cackling after I got the third, limit bird. Only had #9s with me.
