Default New Member with Hammer Gun and Questions

Hello,

We inherited a beautiful Parker Bros. side hammer shotgun from my father-in-law. We recently found it in one of his old Navy boxes (nailed shut) and it probably hasn't seen the light of day in over 70 years. He passed away over 10 years ago, so unfortunately we can't ask him about it... since we would love to know more about it and its history.

I have a given it a very light cleaning and oiling just to protect it. It was definitely well used at some point long ago and it has a nice patina. We just want to preserve it and keep it as original as possible.

Here is what I know -
Serial nos. all match #32458
Size 2 marked
Barrel weight marked as 4 lbs
Twisted Barrel
Year of manufacture: circa 1883?
Gauge: 10 or 12?

Questions:
1. It is missing the left side hammer and screw. Does anybody know someone on the forum who I might be able to purchase these parts? I would really like to make this shotgun whole again.

2. I would appreciate your observations and input - we have no intention of selling it because its a family heirloom. If any additional pictures would help let me know. What grade gun is this? G grade? What gauge? What year of manufacture? Does the serial no reveal any info? Etc.

Many thanks for all of your input.

-Marc

Your gun is a grade "0" top lever 12ga, with straight stock, Plain twist 30" barrels on a #2 frame.
It appears to have a different maker hammer on the right side (possibly Remington), so you will need both hammers to make it correct.

Yes. Left hammer is missing and right one is not original. Locating a matched pair is the best way to go. The gun looks to be a solid example and is likely able to be enjoyed/used for many hears to come barring inspection and getting it fully operable.

Thanks Gents for your responses! Some questions:

1. Other than the hammer - does the rest of shotgun look original?
2. Does the serial no provide any additional information?
3. What do you think the year of manufacture is?
4. Does anyone have a referral or source for me on the forum where I might be able to locate a pair of hammers to purchase (left and right)?
5. Any other thoughts?

Again much thanks to everyone!
