Default 3" 28 Gauge Reproductions?

I was just cleaning my 28 Gauge Repro and the chambers look awful long, I never paid attention before. Maybe the small bore makes them look long? Has anyone ever measured their 28 Ga. chambers? I don't have an accurate way to measure mine.

Take a square cornered machinist's rule, shine a light from the muzzle end, slide the rule from the breech end, holding the edge against the chamber. When you begin to see light under the rule, stop. That's the chamber length

One of the Parker Repro advertising folders lists the 28-gauge 28-inch barrels as having 3-inch chambers --

I've always believed this was a misprint. The other two I have, show 2 3/4 inch. The Parker Reproductions were built well before the Italians, or whoever, started offering 3-inch 28-gauge guns and shells.

Hmm, never considered the introduction of 3" 28 Gauge shot-shells. I am new to the 28 gauge game. That would make sense if the Reproductions pre-dated 3" offerings. I need to go down and measure mine now using the suggestion by Big D. I am guessing if they are 3" they were probably lengthened post production.

I personally don't see the need for a 3" 28 gauge. The 2 3/4" payload is about as perfect as you would want. That being said, a friend of mine has 3 or 4 flats of 3" 28ga, #6, at $130/flat. He knew I was a 28 freak but I told him the only gun I knew that was chambered for that round was a Benelli or Beretta auto. Does anyone know of a good smith that could lengthen the chambers in my VHE 28?

Well, using the light trick and the back side of my dial calipers I can definitely say it is 2 3/4".
I have been curious about my 2 3/4" marked 20 Gauge also. It too is 2 3/4".

Send me the 28 30”’and I’ll lengthen the chambers for you myself . Just might take me five years and when you get it back miraculously the chambers have healed back to 2 5/8”

For some reason we inherited a whole bunch of small bore magnum loads. Why anyone would want to shoot that stuff is beyond me. I gave all that I could find to my brother who doesn’t care
