That is more my thinking since the engraving on the rib all looks re-cut.
I see no evidence of the rest of the "D" it much have been pretty wiped out. I wish I coukd share with you who the maker is, but i do not know. It is simply marked "Superior Lamascus (Damascus) Steel" on the rib annd only "Field" on each lock plate. It is a very nicely fitted and finished gun though. Great engraving.

Serious competition shooters sometimes ordered their Parkers without the dolls head rib extension, believing it to be a hindrance of sorts.

The former owner was a competition shooter, he shot at Wimbelton according to his obit did not know they shot at that venue, also the gun was his fathers he must have ordered it, the family is sending me some more info I hope, it is a hammer gun, Gary
