Default Earliest Single Barrel Trap Found in Canada

At a gun auction today here in Canada, I saw what I believe to be the earliest SBT known. #176130. (I thought #176129 is the first in the order book?). SC grade with 32" barrels and full pistol grip. Was in on it but went for more money than I hoped. Perhaps one of our other members bought the gun.

Looks to be in very decent condition.
I especially like the checkering on the grip.

The grip checkering is very atypical for the grade. And the lack of a mullered border around the “wing” has me strongly questioning originality.

As Dudley suggests, the "wing" may have been an add on, but the rest of it looks pretty original. $3400 isn't out of line for someone interested in an historic serial number. Too bad someone decided to remove the probably original Silver pad and screw on a replacement. I may have paid the price if the serial number had been the earlier one mentioned and I didn't have to bring it in from Canada.

Actually, 176,127 and 176,129 are listed in the serialization book as earlier examples of the single traps. I don't know how Mr. Peck found that 176,129 was the earliest in the order books unless he has access to the PGCA record files. Maybe Mr. Peck got our historian/researcher, Chuck Bishop to search the records for him. We know that there are earlier entries than 176,129, and maybe earlier than 176,127. In the serialization book, there are hundreds of missing entries prior to the mentioned serial numbers. The serialization book is compiled of stock book entries. Order book entries are a different animal and may include many more earlier single traps than 176,127. Investigation continues.

On the topic of the earliest Parker SBTs, this gun does not have the finger groove FE

Fred Gilbert took delivery of a Parker SBT SN 180116 in 1917. In 1919, at age 54 he made a straight run of 589 with it.

October 1919 Forest & Stream illustration without the finger groove

Was the finger groove FE the standard? When was it discontinued?
