Default Leather case

I was going thru some stuff and was thinking if this would be a case for an extra set of barrels?
It measures 31-1/2 “
No markings

I have seen similar cases but the original use is unknown. Some would say it was a fly rod case, but most leather fly rod cases are round. Someone suggested they were used for specific tools, like surveying equipment. I imagine they might work as a barrel case depending on the dimensions. Cool case nonetheless.

I’ve seen pool cues stored and carried in similar cases years ago
