It needs a shorter LOP anyway.

Mills:
Unless you've done a number of pads before, especially the Silver's, it's best to hand this job off to a pro. They won't charge much, and the result will be something prideful. I recommend Bachelder. |

It really needs a DHBP.

The installation of a DHBP will be entirely dependent on the stock being original and completely unaltered. So... it may be an option for you.
Keep in mind that even Remington era guns will have a curve in the butt of the stock. So if it does not have it, then it has likely been cut. A more period correct pad can be installed and there are varying thicknesses available to bring the LOP back if you do not want to cut the stock back. But 1/2" will be as thin as you can really go. If you do not have the experience and proper equipment, it is not really a DIY job and have it turn out as nice as you may hope.
