Default 16ga Load with International Powder Recipe Needed

Hopefully someone here can help me out.

With the ongoing reloading supplies issue we're facing. I'm looking for a 16ga load recipe that I can use with some of the components I have on hand or are available on the market.

I have about 9lbs of international powder on hand that I use for 20ga target loads and would like to use this powder in a 16ga target/dove type load as well, being as I have so much of it. I've looked at the Hodgdon site & have contacted Ballistic products but haven't had any success with finding what I'm looking for.

What I'm looking for is a 16ga loading using 2 3/4" Cheddite hulls & primers, international powder with 1oz of 7.5 shot. There are several types of wads available on the market and I would like to find a recipe for using wads which can be purchased.

Does anyone here have tested loading data for such an animal?

Any information would be helpful, Thanks

Paul,

Have you checked the Hogdins reloading site. There are a number of recipes using both Universal and International, 7625, PB, DR and Gulandi wads, 3/4 & 7/8 oz shot, and RST/Cheddite 2&1/2” hulls. The testing was originally conducted by Nick Sisley and published in Skeet Shooting magazine some time ago. I have loaded both wads and the powders and they shoot fine. Also look at 16ga. Site. There are loads posted there as well. Good shooting.

I have looked at the Hodgdon site & didn't find the 1oz load using international powder I've been looking for.

I'm rather surprised to find so little loading data for 16ga using international, especially in 2 3/4" 1oz loadings. When you read the information for International it show that's it's a good powder for both 12 & 20ga target loads up to 1 1/8oz so in my mind it should work in 16ga as well.

I'm in the situation of wanting to use-up some components I have on hand rather than buying something new and with 9lbs of international on hand I would like to use it in 16ga if I can.

Thanks for the help but I've shifted gears thanks to Pete's post about the alliant powder available at Brownell's.

I found a loading that would work for me using 20/28ga powder & bought some from Brownell's.

Cheditte 16 ga hulls (cut to 2 1/2")
Cheditte 209 primer
Sporting 16 wad
7/8 oz. bismuth
15.7 gr International
You'll have to use the taller version wad in 2 3/4" hull. Had these tested at Precision. Avg velocity 1229 FPS, Avg pressure 8733 PSI
Same as above but with 7/8 oz. #7 1/2 lead and Fioche 616 primers, also tested at Precision. Avg velocity 1211 FPS, Avg pressure 8433 PSI. The bismuth is lethal over decoys and the lead just fine on clays, dove and quail. Pleasant rounds to shoot. I usually have an "0" frame 16 in hand with the lead that weighs under 6#.
As always, these loads are just my experience, use at your own risk.
