The "plain" cap with the checkered oval in the center would be right on all pistol grip hammer guns and also on pistol grip hammerless guns up until ABOUT 1905-1910.
After that timeframe the pistol grip cap would have the Parker Bros. name on it. This continued on Parkers above Trojan grade until the end of Meriden manufacture. Then the Parker Ilion Caps were used under Remington. There are two different sizes for the Parker name caps based on gauge.

The change from the cap with the checkered oval to the Parker Bros. Meriden Conn. cap actually began to occur in about the mid-1890’s. I have and have had unaltered Parkers dating to 1897 with the cap with the logo. And there are late hammer guns (early to mid-teens) with the cap with the logo. It wasn’t an abrupt change.

Thanks Dean, I put the date of around 1905-1910 because I have observed the checkered cap on some guns up into that timeframe. Certainly up as far as 1905. So it is a chance to have one or the other in that timeframe. I would say that either cap could be correct for any gun made after 1895 and up to 1905-1910.
