But we must remember there are no known records, or at least not currently available, that any or these Repros might have been two-barrel sets. So thirty or a hundred years from now, who's going to know if a set was split up??

It is my understanding that two barrel sets were all numbered 1 & 2 on the barrel lug. The one I am interested in selling is "1" (as shown in the first picture of my post). The one I wish to keep is "2". A knowledgeable future owner would know it was from a two barrel set.
I am interested in all comments, and not at all offended by any. I will be following this thread and it may influence a final decision on my part. Bob Jurewicz PS I don't need the money |

I have been half heartedly on the lookout for a 28ga. Repro with 28" barrels, the possibility of being able to pick up a set of 28" barrels AND a two barrel case would certainly open up the market for me. I understand what you're doing and look at it in a very positive way.
The alternative is to pay the freight for a multi barrel set because you like the gun and leave the extra set of barrels in the back of the safe never to be seen again. |

Bob, I am glad you are taking no offence to the discussion. I too have a two barrel 28 gauge set and the 26" barrels do sit most of the time in the safe.
Just from an economic point of view aren't you going to take a hit when it comes time to sell the gun. On the other hand if you get $1,900 for the barrels and case it might be a wash. |

I was searching for a 28", 28 gauge one barrel gun, but the closeout dealers didn't have any of those. I bought a two barrel set, 28 gauge, so I could get the 28" set of barrels. That is the best way to get a 28 gauge, 28" gun, even today. Time is a wasting if you want a 28 gauge, 28" gun. They are disappearing into long time collections as we speak. Double trigger guns, forget it unless you are willing to search hourly on the internet and bid aggressively.

I have a couple of two barrel sets and IMHO the second set rarely get's used. On the thread about Kerr's I posted pictures of a gun that came from them as a two barrel set. I've had the gun 15 years or so and can't recall ever using the M/F set. I have an A1 special upgrade 28ga on a OO frame with a second set of barrels from James Purdey. I'd sell this set in a minute as I never use them either.
