It's likely an ivory bead that has changed color with age. Aged ivory beads generally turn yellow / brownish with age. I like the look. I get the same effect, more or less, by leaving new ivory beads on when I refinish a barrel set with them. They "age" to a nice yellow / brownish color that nicely mimics an old aged bead. I don't like the looks of a new ivory bead on an old gun. It looks out of place to my eyes.
