Default Grip Cap

Anyone seen this particular grip cap? Is it a repro of some kind?

That is the standard style of cap used on meriden guns after around 1900. This one looks to be a reproduction and not actually an original one. And it is installed backwards.

I looks as though it had been painted (judging from the screw head) but it may be more detailed if the paint was removed.

I've seen a lot of them.

I think Edgar got it right. It looked abnormal to me. I think it has been painted.
