Load data for 12 ga 2 1/2” load

Looking for any published data for a Parker chambered 2 1/2”. Also wondering if Vulcan steel barrels could handle 2 3/4” trap loads ?

Look at the Hogdons reloading web site. They have a number of 2& 1/2 low pressure loads.

As long as the barrels and chambers are sound and chambered for 2 3/4” shells Vulcan barrels will handle trap loads, but they should still be below about 8,500 psi.

I don't think any 12ga Parker had 2 1/2" chambers. But you should be able to use the data for 2 3/4" shells. You'll just need fiber wads or a plastic wad with a shorter cushion area so you'll get the proper stack height. I use just Claybuster wads and would sub in a wad for 1 3/8 of shot and just load 7/8 or 1oz of shot - I forget now. If you're gonna sub in the same manufactures wad with the same base you won't be changing anything as far as pressure goes, or very, very little. I called CBers once and ask them the question. He said I'd be just fine. He couldn't give me an official answer without testing but said he wouldn't be afraid to do it.

For my 2 1/2" loads, I use the same recipes that I use when loading 7/8 ounce 2 3/4" loads, including the same wads, the knockoffs are cheaper. Oddly, they fit just fine in the 2 1/2" hulls. If the 2 3/4" loads overfill the 2 1/2" hulls, change the wad to a slightly shorter wad. There is no safety problem in using your 2 3/4" recipes. The only problem is getting a wad to fill the hull without overfilliing.
