Default Reproduction Parts Compatability

I was reading thru Volume 1 issue 2 of the Parker Pages and noted a small blurb from Mr. J.T. Skeuse that said "all of our reproduction parts fit the Originals". I wasn't aware of this? That is pretty broad statement, is it correct?

I don’t see how it can be correct as all Repros within a particular frame sizes were manufactured to the same specs with precision machines. The originals were machine made but hand-fitted. Even parts from one original of a particular frame size are highly unlikely to fit another original of the same frame size.

They do however, usually interchange with another Repro of the same frame size.

I believe he meant to say that Repro parts CAN be made to fit in originals with some additional hand fitting.

The opposite can be true as well. Brad Bachelder fit an original Parker ejector hammer into a repro of mine that had a broken one.

The bottom line here is most original Parker or Repro parts need to be fitted to some degree. Very few of them are plug & play!

You're absolutely right Paul.

Once upon a time, I thought I just had to have a 20ga. Parker Reproduction DHE w/28" bbls., SG, SPL, DT, factory choked Q1/Q2. I diligently searched long and hard for more than 15 years to find one. The exact gun in the exact configuration I was seeking never showed up. Finally, after more than what seemed like a lifetime of searching, a 20ga. DHE appeared w/28" bbls. factory choked Q1/Q2, w/SG, SPL, but it only had one trigger --dammit! I couldn't take it anymore so I relented and decided that would have to do. So I jumped on it. Upon receiving the gun I promptly sent it off to Keith Kearcher for conversion to double triggers. Kearcher utilized double triggers from an original Parker Bros. gun for the conversion.

It is an accurate statement.
