Default Damascus Restoration HEEEEELP

Everyone here has been very helpful with this project but I’m at a point where I’m disappointed and need some serious help. Here’s my first etch followed by my fourth.
I’m using Laurel Mtn, Radio Shack acid 12oz/80oz water, boiling after rusting, carding to visible pattern, etching, rinsing and carding with baking soda. I thought about just stopping at the first etch because it looked good to me. I’ve covered the barrels smoothly with cotton pads alternating direction from muzzle to breach. I now have less contrast, and parts of the barrel look more like bluing with little pattern. Is it possible to remove the blue areas without damaging the pattern?
If I have to start over I will. Your assistance is definitely needed and I’ll answer any questions the best I can. Thank you very much.37906F27-4486-43FB-B9C3-816541D6F52E.jpg
