Default New Enthusiast in Colorado

Hello All and Happy New Year!

I am a new guy with the same old story . . . I have my grandfather's hammerless double with 28" Damascus barrels. Final production date is October 8, 1889. Serial Number is 87761. Other than than that "for certain" information, I am still trying to learn about the rest of the numbers and their meaning. I'm not even clear about the grade and can't seem to match engraving pictures to what I am looking at, though I am certain it must be a low grade gun. From a collector's standpoint, this gun must be a real mess and I would like to learn how to make it a little more presentable.

I recently took up sporting clays after not shooting at a "pigeon" for over 50 years. I'm using a Mossberg HDW for now and actually hitting some birds. In any case, I'm happy to be here and am amazed at the amount of information available in the threads/posts. Thanks for that!

welcome Jim

according to the book your gun was a grade 2 16 gauge with 30 damascus

the book had a extra code of 1 - which means added barrels

so maybe the 28's are the second set, if not the 30's have been trimmed

this sound like and excellent gun to get a letter on to see what the other barrels were.

Jim,
Go back to the main web page www.parkerguns.org and check out the web links on the left side of that page for all kinds of information. In particular, look at the lower 7 or 8 links under the label "Collector Information". I think you will find what you need there, if not, come back and ask more detailed questions.
