Default Rock Island PH 20...

Got the 20 yesterday. Always apprehensive when bidding on a gun that has never been in your hands. This was listed as from the Pachmeyer Estate...and true to form it had a white line pad..(that is already removed ).. 28"...double ivory....F/F..The front bead must be a replacement, as it is much whiter than the mid bead. Is there a way to tone down the color ? Bores are like new...One screw has a ding..rest are nice. Good bit of color, even the TG is nice. My photography is not the best..obviously ! I loaned my TPS to a friend..so I don't know total production. I'm sure someone will tell me..My first Parker was a PH 20 that I bought in 1976..and, oddly..for the exact some price that I paid for this one..

I too looked at that gun and know how difficult it is with the small amount of information they supply. I bid on a Fox with two sets of barrels and it went for double the estimated value.

I think you can pretty much disregard their estimates. All the ones I looked at seemed way low. Not sure what their strategy is with low estimates.

Mr. Martin..thanks. for the figure. Rock Island estimate was 1100-1600 on the 20.

That’s a beautiful little PH Jerry.

Please contact me when your curatorship of it is expiring.

I tried following live the first day of the auction to see how the hammer bids compared to the estimates and was surprised that quite a few were below the low estimates. It was my first time there so I tested the waters with one bid, I could have done a bunch but but was afraid of winning more than I can handle. I'll be a little more serious about it next time.

I looked that 20 over in person, and it was very(!) nice. Congratulations and good shooting.

If the bead is truly ivory or bone, it can be toned down with a strong tea. You may need to treat it several times, but, eventually it will yellow.
