Default Barrel Thickness Comparison:

It was very obvious when viewing the pair of 1901 shotguns side by side, one has much thicker barrels at the breech. In the photo on the left is a 1901 Lefever I, on the right is a 1901 Parker Brothers V, both have 12 Gauge steel barrels.
The Lefever measures .185
The Parker measures .221
Interesting comparison. I'd bet Charlie has an 8 Gauge nearing .500!

Lefevers had varying barrel weights. A 12g can be very light and thin, or very heavy. Even heavier than that Parker.

Barrel breech wall thickness is mostly determined by the standardized frame size. And the gun’s weight and consequent frame size is determined by how the gun was ordered/specified.

Parker Bros. built 12-gauge guns pretty regularly on 1, 1 1/2, 2 and 3 frames, a few late Remington built guns on the 1/2 frame and even at least one on a 6-frame that Jack P. had for sale years ago --

Dave, you should be declared a National Treasure!
