Default A New Chapter Begins…Meet Mazie

Our healing continues after this past November’s trajedy and yesterday brought the best medicine yet. Meet Mazie, our 8 week old pup that is out of a litter from Sadie’s sister at Black Creek Kennel in Churchville NY. Mazie’s pedigree includes two National Field Trial Champions and numerous other field champions. I am looking forward to working with her on her hunting skills. My father and our friend that went with me to South Dakota were there with me when we picked the pup and it helped with all our healing. In fact our friend decided to also get a pup from litter and like has happened for many seasons in the past, we will be hunting brother and sister next season. We are already planning a trading trip to Gamecreek in Southern New Jersey next month to introduce the pups to some quail. February in lake effect region of New York State could mean lots of snow and having lived in Southern Jersey I know it will almost certainly be much warmer and free from snow cover.

This morning was great having coffee with Mazie asleep in my lap followed by some play and of course going out so often that having a revolving door would be an advantage.

Needless to say my wife and I are happy to have a Brittany in our lives again.

Don that's just awesome. Congratulations she's gorgeous. I've never handled the loss of a dog very well, having a shelf of their ashes I look at frequently. When the time is right I'll spread them in their favorite coverts or duck waters. She will help you to heal and I think she already has your heart from that photo!

That’s great Don, beautiful pup. We are contemplating starting a new chapter also after losing our Labrador in November. Having my son’s Brittany here on the weekends while they work has helped ease the pain for us and our cocker spaniel. I can tell our cocker is lonely during the week and know it’s time to find him a new friend.
Take care
Tim

Hello Don... Your story still has an effect on me and I am sure many others.. I don't think I will ever forget it... I am very happy you're found yourself a great looking pup for your future hunts and how wonderful to be able to share the training to come with your friend and the litter mate.... Good luck to you both and keep sharing the days ahead with her...

Congratulations Don. I've heard it said that every dog that leaves us takes a piece of our heart with them. And very new pup gives us a piece of their heart. Eventually our heart is all dog. I agree!
Game Creek is an excellent place to train! I have their Miss Oakley, and plan to get down there (from Maine) this spring to work my 2 pups out of Oakley.
Best of luck with Mazie. She's gorgeous!

Don, I'm very happy for you and your wife. Life moves on, but memories are kept.

Enjoy every minute with that pup.

She's a beauty! Nothing brings comfort for after the loss of a canine friend like a puppy!

I can't add anything, to what my little brother has said. But, also wish you many happy years with Mazie.
Game Creek is a great place to start a young pup! I've started & hunted my last 6 Brit's there, (3 Am. and then 3 Fr.). Only the last 2 French are still with us. However, in late Feb., we'll be taking my daughter's new French Brittany pup 'Piper' to GC, & show her some quail.
