The lines per inch for checkering does vary by grade. But even within grade it can vary from gun to gun.
A PH/NH gun would normally be around 18 lines per inch. Speaking in terms of modern checkering tool spacing. If you are checkering from scratch, that is a safe number. But if you are working with existing checkering, it should be measured to confirm what it is on that specific gun.
But... if recutting checkefing that is all there, a spacing tool is not really needed. A single cutter is all one needs.
