A letter in that serial number range is not going to give you any ownership provenance. In that range, it is up to you to appraise the gun's originality. The SB says it's a BHE 28" 16 with capped pistol grip. That's about all you will get in a letter.

Thanks Bill....Its important that barrels are correct (not cut), it is a caped PG. I plan to send him a check for 1/2 now and will possibly pick it up in person in may. Steve will be in Columbus ohio in May. Thanks all SXS ohio

I have talked with Steve about the rear stock. His pictures did not show the pistol grip close up. The gun has a round knob with gold oval inset. This does not match the book info as having a caped pistol grip? Question....did the gun leave the factory this way? I will now need to find out if the stock is original. Thanks all

Kenny why don't you come to the Southern and have Steve bring the gun for you to inspect.

The SB is very light on accuracy in describing grip types. The reason here may be that the stock book does not describe the grip correctly. Talk to Chuck Bishop about that.
