The early Davis guns are a different breed, very high quality, and scarce.

Early Davis guns had batch numbers(vs serial numbers) and I have not witnessed any with higher than two digits. The earlier guns also are distinguished in having removable floor plates on the frames. Different barrel lugs and cocking hooks also.

N.R. Davis started making muzzle loaders. Their first breech loader was a sliding open pin-fire double --
Pin Fire Double.jpg The history of N.R. Davis is well covered by Cdr. Gunther & James A. Nelson in The Gun Report, Volume 35, Number 11, April 1990. |
