I often wonder how Sharps felt about about Parker using the term 'Old Reliable'
I have no idea if Sharps had a Copyright on the term, but they had been putting it on the barrels of their guns, beginning in 1874. |

My Sharps saddle ring carbine in .50-70 has no legend on it, just a serial number.

I am "guessing" that Sharps was long out of business, when Parker was using the term"Old Reliable" in their Marketing/Promotional materials. Sharps did put out a sxs in 1878 and engraved "Old Reliable" on the rib(that would be a nice one to have). I will post a picture from the Sharps book by Frank Sellers when I have a chance.

I enjoyed that article and looking through the rest of the magazine. It is like taking a step back in time, and I like those prices!
As promised here are some Sharps sxs pictures from Franks Seller's book Sharps Firearms. Sharps may have come up with it first, but I find the "Old Reliable" slogan fitting well with Parkers too... |
