The pattern pictured is from a Grade 2 L. C. Smith. I marvel at the many patterns that are achieved by those craftsmen of yesteryear.

Chain Damascus was standard on post-1892 L.C. Smith No. 2 & 3, and an option for Pigeon, No. 4, & A1
Very attractive pattern when refinished (by Bachelder) in black & white Chain is also found on No. 3 Crass, Lewis & Flues Ithacas, B grade Remington Hammerless Model of 1894 & an occasionally F grade Lefever. This is an interesting chain pattern on a Baker Paragon, also refinished by Bachelder The chain lopin is 2nd from left on the top row

The Bernard lopin is top row far right - quite different.
A "Rose Pattern" Bernard II Parker barrel which shows an end-on ribband (of 3 rods) as it was added to the helically hammer welded barrel tube. The barrel tubes were fabricated using 2-3 sections of ribband; obviously the thicker at the breech.
