Default Advise on Powder 7625

Like many of you powder has become an "Issue", I used my last International and Universal Powder last weekend. However I believe I got "Lucky" as I sourced 8 pounds of 7625 at an estate sale. I load my 12 gauge RST shells with 23.0 grains of Universal pushing 7/8 oz and it's an excellent load. So here's my question; can I use 7625 as comparable powder to Universal and number of grains? I appreciate your suggestions?

Once upon a time before they stopped making SR7625 I used the powder for 10’s , 12’s , 16’s , 20’s and 28’s . Someone posted an IMR data manual from the 1980’s I think it was that had data for the SR and PB powders . If you can find it that oughtta answer your question .

I just reloaded and shot several boxes of 12 gauge using Rem gun club hulls, Winchester WAA12SL wad, 7/8 oz (24 grams) shot, and 21 grains of IMR 7625 and it seemed like a nice load. It's listed at 5300 psi and 1150 fps. The Hodgdon Reloading Data does still show data for the discontinued powders, but it won't show them unless you search by powder and select the specific powder first. It will also show data for PB and SR4756, but again, select search by powder first and scroll down in the powder section to the discontinued ones. You can add your components in this

Thank you, I loaded 2 boxes of RST Hulls, Cheddite Primers, CB6100-12 Wads and 19.8 grs of 7625 yesterday morning. I prefer to start a little under suggested loads (powder) and work up to the target and you suggested 21.0 grains. Excellent results on the pattern board at 25 yards, soft recoil and Wednesday I'll being shooting several rounds of skeet.

PS: Little more barrel residue than Universal but not bad.

George,

See the attached article. On page 2, it has some load data for that 7625 powder using 16ga 2-1/2” Cheddite hulls.

I checked the Hodgdon reloading data site a few minutes ago and did not see any data for 7625 using 16ga 2-1/2” cheddite hulls. So some follow up testing might be in order before using data in Sisley article.

Over on the Shotgun World, reloading forum site, a poster some 4 or 5 months posted a web site that has in digital form old IMR reloading manuals as well as Hercules and a host of others. A Google search would probably locate that site. Good luck. I have loaded and continue as such both 7625 and PB according to the Sisley recipes. Very easy on the shoulder and gun. Good luck.

Chris, I believe I have info on 7625 for 16 ga on file. I have all the old spreadsheets from the 16 ga Society in my computer, you can download them from mine if you like, also have alot of them printed out.

They no longer list it, because it's been out of production for several years.
My all time favorite Cheddite 2.5" 16ga load was 20grs 7625, SP-16 wad, 7/8oz. I have since switched to PB

SG wad?
Edgar,That's the load I used also with the SG wad, then I switched to Universal, but going to load up some with the 7625 again. Got about 4 lbs of each left.
