Default Parker id

I have a Parker and I read a doc from Mr. Lewis on markings etc. and it said to get a letter from PGCA, take some pics, etc. and maybe it can be id for me. The number is 34992; Pat Mar 16, 1875. There are also two other dates Pat Apr 11, 1876 and Sept 3, 1872; there appears to be a small x; also a T; anda p14. Wondering how I can get help.

Joann,
Welcome to the Parker world! Unfortunately, your gun is not listed in the Serialization book, but the good news there are other available records. Take a look at the Home Page under research letters. You can input the SN and it will confirm records available. To obtain the info apply for a research letter as described in the instructions. Posting a few pictures of the gun might let us help you a bit more.

Joann, there are records for your gun available. Submit a request for a research letter and include a check.

Before I join up or send off for a Register letter I need to clean this gun up to better read the info. Can I use steel wool for the metal; can I use a certain kind of oil for the barrels and the gun stock. I will take pics and repost for more info later. Thanks to all who answered a girl. j

Steel wool would not be a good idea to start with. A better route would be to post photos of the gun as it is now and then follow the suggestions of those members who have done such clean-ups in the past. Good luck.

Maybe copper or bronze wool but never use any abrasive that will scratch or mar the finish. I would recommend first finding out what you have before any attempt to “clean” it up. There’s a possibility you could considerably lessen its value by doing so.

Hi-res pics of the complete lock plates with hammers, the underside of the frame, the legend on the rib on the top of the barrels.
