Default Who Trained Who?

The 1st year I hunted my new Brittany (1986), we went to the public hunting area searching for release pheasants after work. Several minutes into the hunt I jumped a rabbit but did not shoot. The dog heard the rabbit, looked back at me, came back to me then change course and followed the rabbit. Several minutes later she returned with a rabbit and handed it to me.
Was I surprised Yes.
WE had a quick discussion about not hunting rabbits and it never happened again.
Later in that season with snow on the ground, we jumped several deer while hunting grouse. She chased the deer and returned about 15 minutes later.
After that when deer were seen, she never bothered to follow them.
Who trained who?
I miss that dog!
Jim
