I have seen brass as well before. Likely not original.

Unfortunately the person who cast that buttplate did not have a good original to make his mold.

One of our members has a great set of molds for buttplates. I am hoping he gifts them to me when he no longer needs them. He made my eight gauge #7 frame buttplate and it is indistinguishable from an original.
