Default West Coast Ruffed Grouse

About an hour west of me in the Coast Range one can find some great Ruffed Grouse habitat. The birds are hard to locate and even harder to kill due to thick brush and steep slopes. My dog and I took a little trip over there today. We didn't kill any grouse but I took a few pictures and spent an hour looking for my GPS in an Alder swamp which I, miraculously, found.

1) To get there you pass through the worlds finest Pinot Noir growing region
2) The Willamette Valley also produces Hazel nuts and grass seed in this area
3) Near the summit of the Coast Range Maples are turning
4) Creeks and Alder swamps are good places to look for grouse
5) My 20ga rests against what must have been a grand old fir about the time Parker Bros introduced their hammerless gun.

Wow - that's in Oregon..??! Simply beautiful country! My only experience is Portland OR - which sure doesn't look like that... Great pics, Dave! Of course - close ups of that nice little 20 would be a bonus
