Default Maybe An Expanation

I was looking at Bruce Day's posting on a C grade he believes is the last C made. I noticed that the barrel lug on his Rem era gun has the upper case I on the barrel lug just as found on Repros. Nobody seems to know the meaning of this character on the repros. I suspect that only Remington knows. The repros were patterned after a Rem example and the Japs copied the I along with the rest of the gun.

Yes. The repros just copied the markings on the Ilion guns that they had as examples.

But the I would have been the only Remington stamp that was copied. None of the other Remington stamps appear on the Repro barrel flats.

Is the "I" commonly found on Ilion-built Remington Parkers? If so, perhaps the "I" stood for Ilion? If the "I" was indeed copied by Parker Reproductions from the Ilion-built Remington Parkers, why is the axis different?

That's funny, it was the first thought that popped into my head too!
