Default 16 Gauge 1 oz loads

I am looking to load : 16 gauge 1 oz , # 8 shot ; Cheddite 209( 2000) primer; 2.5 in Cheddite Hulls ; Universal powder= 19.1 grains or Solo 1000 = 16.3 grains. The question is regarding plastic wads.

I have tried Ballistic Products, BP 16 sporting and BP 16 sporting short wads, neither of them work well, as there is not sufficient hull space to fold crimp without buckling the hull in the final fold crimp station using a single stage Mec loader set up to load 16 2.5 inch hulls .

The question I have is,what wad(s) could I use in 16 gauge Cheddite Hull so the hull does not buckle at the final crimp station, using one of the above loads.

I use the BP SG16 wads in my 2.5" hulls. No issues with them. Wad column is where it needs to be and they fold crimp like factory shells.

Those are great wads for the cheddite hulls, but you need a denser powder. Longshot will work and is available.

longshot in 16 with those wads is 7250PSI and 1200FPS. They kill grouse, pheasant, woodcock and clay targets and the 2.5" hull folds beautifully. 18grains and Longshot is available and cheaper than others.

I also use SG16 in 2.5", but I'm only dropping 7/8oz. I'm still using 7625. I emptied 150 of them yesterday.

If you experience hull buckling you may have to adjust your crimp dies
