I had never really thought about it in those terms. I have owned a few German Drillings from the 20's that were underlever hammer guns. I believe they were Suhl guns if I remember. I Googled "Sauer underhammer" and came up with a goodly number of references and pictures, on the Sauer museum website. All the ones I found were hammer drillings and cape/combo guns. The others were underlever single shots like the Tell rifles made in the first third of the 20th century. I did not see any underlever shotguns at all.Maybe that is the dividing line. I saw a list of Sauer models made in the early 20th century and it was lengthy. Maybe the underlevers they sold were limited to rifled firearms like my Cape gun.
