Thanks Charlie, I think that Kensal gave the right answer on a solution. but as I lack patience, good sense not to mention Im notoriously cheap, I decided to take a file to the back of the forend loop. Not recommending this to anyone but it my case the problem solved and forend is still rock steady when in place. i could see evidence that the forend loop had been recently resoldered so it wasnt a complete stab in the dark
