I delayed in answering this until I could take one apart that I have here. The escutcheon is held in by just the one screw that is in the front of the forend iron. But, the push button is retained by an additional screw. The small one behind the front screw. The actual escutcheon will come out by tapping on the front screw after turning loose. Then the button can be pulled out by removing the small screw.

That is at least how the forend from my F grade comes apart. And that one is 1888 vintage if I remember correctly.
