Personally - for now, I would just wipe it lightly with oil on a pad for now, that will stabilize the brown and prevent future rust and show the pattern some. Refinishing damacus is an invovled process. The first thing for the barrels is to evaluate the condition, are there dents to be removed and how are the bores? And figure out the wall thickness.

have you "rung" the barrels? hang them by the lug on one finger and flick a finger nail against the tubes. (don't drop 'em ) you should hear a tone simlilar to a small bell or tuning fork, a dull clunk will indicate a joining issue.

this is one item you might want to send to a pro for evaluation.
