I'm quite certain
that particular craftsman knew how to do a perfect job and likely wanted to do a perfect job but, as is so often the case, the owner of the gun may have told Dr. Gaddy to "stop before going over $XXX.xx"
So often, the difference between a 'commercially acceptable" job and a "perfect" job is the $$ amount someone is willing to pay. Dr. Gaddy was quite capable of the "perfect" job.
